Christmas comes to Dartmoor

Dartmoor towns really know how to have fun at this festive time of year.

Last week saw the Edwardian Evening in Okehampton, late night shopping in Ashburton and Moretonhampstead Christmas lights were
turned on.

This week Father Christmas arrived in Chagford on his sleigh as his elves got busy sorting out presents in his grotto for all the children.

There had been a frenzy of activity all day at the new Proper Job Uptown store in preparation for opening night, with film maker and comic Tony Hawks cutting the ribbon in the packed store. Meanwhile across the road Andy Martin was busy carving the hog roast as the queue built up.

It began to snow as you arrived at Father Christmas’s Grotto where expectant children were awaiting an audience with the old gentleman dressed in red with a long white beard.

Evenings like this across the moor are good to lift people’s spirits and a boost for the local economy.
