Land of the Giants

Giants have arrived at the Miniature Pony Centre at Moretonhampstead.

The two Mammoth American Donkeys, Jackson and Colorado, are massive with Jackson standing at 15.2 hands high. Mammoth Donkey’s ears can grow up to nearly three foot in length.

The Mammoth American Donkeys were developed from a variety of European donkeys, including the Poitou from France, which were imported to the USA to improve the American livestock as large, strong mules were needed for agriculture.

Nichola, at 5.5 foot, one of the donkey’s handlers, is towered over by Jackson. These giants have been wowing the visitors at the Miniature Pony Centre since it opened last weekend.
