A Chudleigh horse rider has scooped third prize in an international dressage event.
Emily Burns and her five-year-old Andalusian horse Lago Icon made it to the podium of the Iberian Dressage Masters Championships, which were held in Paris.
The pair were competing against 30 in their category and in the second of two tests scored a personal best of 81.1 per cent in front of four top judges. Emily, who is the yard manager at Finlake Riding Centre, said: ‘I was absolutely over the moon.
‘The four judges are the highest you can get so it was a bit intimidating. They had some really nice things to say about Icon.
‘I have had some great horses but he is the horse of my lifetime. He is really something special and I am hoping to get to the top with him.’
The achievement was even more notable as Emily and Icon only began dressage 18 months ago and this was their first major championships.
Emily travelled to Paris with her friend and Icon’s breeder Charlotte Crocker-Westlake.
Emily makes time to train with some of the top Grand Prix riders including Victor Alvarez and Adam Kemp.
