Telephone box to village shop

The Dartmoor hamlet of Wonson has not had a village store until now.

Christine Hadfield has started a tiny shop in a bright red decommissioned telephone box in the car park of The Northmore Arms.

The ‘village shop’ sells cakes, jams, eggs, sweets and homegrown vegetables. It is not staffed so an honesty box is there for customers to pay.

Christine said: “The phone box was in a bit of a state, most of the glass windows were broken so we replaced them with Perspex and then we sanded down the box and repainted it pillar box red.

I generally put something on the Chagford Hub Facebook page when I have restocked.” Christine admitted that the takings in the honesty box can be a little disappointing from time to time, so she has left a notice and a price list in the shop in the hope that people will be a little more honest.
