The lost paintings of Manaton

‘A Manaton Century’, a beautiful new book has been launched by writer
Simon Butler after the discovery of ‘lost paintings’ and drawings by artist and teacher William Henry Jones.

His granddaughter has given sixty paintings and drawings to raise money for local causes. William Henry Jones moved to Manaton to teach at the village school in the early 1900s until his death in 1923.

While many of the approximately 400 paintings and sketches centre on the parish, there are a number of paintings of the wider moor included in the book ‘A Manaton Century – A Dartmoor Parish 100 years ago’.

There will be a book launch and auction of many of William Henry Jones art works on Saturday 21st September at 6pm at Neadon Barn, Manaton TQ1 39UY
