There were only three sightings of Stag Beetles in Devon and none in Cornwall last year according to the people Trust for Endangered Species.

Nature lovers are being asked to watch out for Britain’s largest beetle which is a rarity in the South West. The trust, which has been monitoring beetle numbers for the last twenty years, is asking people in the South West to take part in the ‘Great Stag Hunt’.

The best time to see these elusive insects are on warm summer evenings in June and July and if you can take a photograph and send it to the trust, all the better.
