Charity raffle to win the fabulous Shekinah Quilt

The Shekinah Quilt Project has many elements and is the result of a collaboration between Alison Archer-Lock, a textile enthusiast and Paul Singleton, a textile designer.

The project began by trying to bring about a positive outcome to the confines of the COVID-19 restrictions, and so, the Shekinah Quilt Project began when Paul Singleton invited Alison Archer-Lock to use his textile samples to make a quilt. From the outset the idea was to create a quilt that could be raffled or auctioned to raise money for a charity.

Alison and Paul decided it would be a great idea to repurpose many of the fabric samples that had been made as print trials in Paul’s design studio and use them to make the quilt. Paul says: “You might say it was something like taking an artist’s sketchbook and using all the pages to make a huge collage.”

After Paul had designed and printed the fabrics in his design studio in Liverton, Alison got to work, cutting, sewing, and stitching, working from her garden sewing studio on the edge of Haytor. The finished piece is a large, bold, playful contemporary quilt, printed and made by hand. It measures 230cm x 230cm. Paul and Alison’s chosen charity is Shekinah, which is based in Plymouth. Shekinah is doing fantastic work to support the homeless and help with many other issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, restorative justice and counselling.
