Dartmoor’s Chagstock festival is officially going ahead this weekend.
Up to 5,000 music-deprived revellers will be welcomed to watch a bands and artists from today (Friday, 23rd July).
The green light has officially been given following the Government’s commitment to honouring ‘Freedom Day’ on 19th July.
Tickets for the cancelled 2020 event are valid
for this year.
A diverse line-up from the 2020 festival has been carried over including headline acts: Scouting for Girls and Seasick Steve. Other artists to take to the stage include Town of Cats, Cut Capers and Cable Street Collective.
Festival organiser, Simon Ford, was ‘thrilled’ to get the green light for a full capacity shindig. “That was close,” said Simon. “It was touch and go for a while, but I’m so glad we can go ahead and get to see the amazing artists we booked all that time ago.”
Simon added: “Outdoor events carry very little risk; our beautiful Dartmoor site has panoramic views… and normally a gentle breeze too.
‘Chagstock isn’t a festival with hundreds of thousands of people crammed in, there’s plenty of space and queues are almost non-existent.
‘Lockdown’s over, let’s dance!”
On the understandable questions surrounding safety, the organiser said that the weekend would be COVID-19-conscious.
He explained: “We are committed to having as safe an event as possible… so as it stands, we would encourage people to test before they come, though we will not be checking these at the gate.”
Simon said they will also encourage people to wear a mask in crowded areas throughout the weekend.
Following a number of Government trials, outdoor concerts are considered to carry less potential for viral transmission with pilot gigs held across the country producing positive results.
The festival is committed to being as eco-friendly as possible and even plants trees locally using a local charity. The amount planted is calculated to mitigate the carbon generated from the weekend and massive efforts are made to recycle materials used on site.
