There is to be another trip from Okehampton to Weymouth on OkeRail.
Kevin Ball of the OkeRail Forum said: “I can confirm that we have a trip to Weymouth arranged for September 14th.”
The Train will leave Okehampton at 8.15am and arrive back at 7.30pm giving almost five hours in Weymouth.
The outbound train will stop at Dorchester West to drop off passengers but will not pick up on the return journey. Passengers visiting Dorchester must make their own way from Dorchester to Weymouth to board the return train to Okehampton which leaves at 4.26pm. The fares are £37.00 standard return with children at half price £18.50 and first class is £52.50 with children £26.25.
Mike Davies, the Chairman of OkeRail has stepped down from the post and a new Chair will be elected by the OkeRail Forum in September. In a statement Mike said: “I believe this is a critical time for the reinstatement of the daily passenger service between Okehampton and Exeter and that a lot of work is still required.
‘During my time as Chair we have achieved a great deal but now a new Chair is required. A Chair who can continue to work with government department, local councils, rail operators and Forum members.
‘I believe I have taken the Forum as far as I can and it now needs a fresh input. My work council and family commitments are such that I cannot commit to the hours required to ensure everything that needs to be done, and done to a good standard. I will continue to offer whatever support I can and wish the Forum all the best in achieving its goal of a daily passenger service to Exeter.”
